At a time when war is affecting the northern hemisphere, Latin America has been developing an ecosystem in which the development of blockchain technology, decentralized applications and Web3 have positioned the continent as one of today’s major crypto epicenters.
In recent months, different countries such as Peru, Argentina and Chile have hosted a multitude of events related to cryptocurrencies. And starting the week of October 7, Devcon 2022, held in Bogota, Colombia, will make the coffee-growing country the most important site for developers and cryptocurrency enthusiasts.
¿What is Devcon?
As they explain on their website, the Devcon is the Ethereum conference (the second most important blockchain project in the world after Bitcoin (BTC), where developers, researchers, thinkers and creators will share in a “family reunion” about the present and future of the internet.
Devcon is also an opportunity to get to know the Colombian capital, which is why the event’s website has published a guide to the city. On this page, the organization assures that “in Bogota we found the seeds of an ambitious community that our ecosystem could help grow. From builders to educational entities, local business and industry leaders and more, we are excited to meet and work with those making local use of Ethereum technology in the real world, and to promote those efforts.”
Although the official event will take place between October 11 and 14, different side-events will be held in the region throughout the month. For example, following Devcon, there will be ETHMedellin (October 18-22) and ETHPanama (October 26-28), allowing attendees to continue learning and connecting with industry leaders.
The evolution of Ethereum
Undoubtedly, one of the main themes of Devcon 2022 will be The Merge of Ethereum. With this update, the blockchain switched from operating with the Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus protocol to Proof-of-Stake (PoS).
Thus, the Ethereum network eliminates cryptocurrency miners and reduces its energy cost by 99.95%, ushering in a new era for the project co-founded by Vitalik Buterin, who will certainly be present at the event.
On the other hand, due to the importance of Ethereum in decentralized finance (DeFi), NFT collections and tokenization of real-life assets such as real estate, these and more topics, such as regenerative finance (ReFi), will take center stage at the event.
Those who attend will not only have the opportunity to learn first-hand about these technological innovations, because Devcon will also be an ideal space for networking. Those interested in developing a career in the Web3 environment will be able to interact with thousands of people from around the world who will visit Colombia to learn about the latest developments in blockchain technology.
